[texts]Theory Interpretations in PVS - Owre, Sam
The purpose of this task was to provide a mechanism for theory interpretations in a prototype verification system (PVS) so that it is possible to demonstrate the consistency of a theory by exhibiting an interpretation that validates the axioms. The mechanization makes it possible to show that one collection of theories is correctly interpreted by another collection of theories under a user-specified interpretation for the uninterpreted types and constants...

[texts]Limitation of Ground-based Estimates of Solar Irradiance Due to Atmospheric Variations - Wen, Guoyong
The uncertainty in ground-based estimates of solar irradiance is quantitatively related to the temporal variability of the atmosphere's optical thickness. The upper and lower bounds of the accuracy of estimates using the Langley Plot technique are proportional to the standard deviation of aerosol optical thickness (approx. /- 13 sigma(delta tau)). The estimates of spectral solar irradiance (SSI) in two Cimel sun photometer channels from the Mauna Loa site of AERONET are compared with satellite o...

[texts]Design of inducers for two-phase operation - King, J. A.
A mathematical model and a digital computer program were developed for the design and evaluation of inducers for pumping two-phase oxygen. The mathematical model indicated that any design would have to be run at relatively low speeds to pump two-phase oxygen and that the J-2S oxygen inducer was close to optimum and should perform the task. A J-2S pump was built up and tested in two-phase oxygen at speeds indicated by the mathematical model...

The assignment described was enough to make a neophyte Java developer bolt for the door: provide a remote method for use by an applet which invokes a native method that wraps a function in an existing legacy library. The purpose of the remote method is to return an instance of a class object whose contents reflect the data structure returned by the legacy function. While embroiled in implementation, I would have spent the time wading through their JNI use group archive as well, but I couldn't se...

[texts]Analysis of Flow-System Starting Dynamics of Turbopump-Fed Liquid-Propellant Rocket - Krebs, Richard P.
Two rocket configurations with turbopump drive were investigated analytically. In one configuration the inlet pressure to the turbine was fixed at the design value. The second configuration employed a ''bootstrap'' technique for supplying energy to the turbine. An injector was the chief resistance between the pump and the rocket combustion chamber. From the analysis two parameters were developed from which the speed response time of the turbopump, the flow response time, and the maximum dynamic ...

[texts]An Approximation Method for the Integration of the Equations of a Nonstationary Laminar Boundary Layer in an Incompressible Fluid - Rozin, L. A
An approximate solution is presented of the equations of a nonstationary laminar boundary layer in an incompressible fluid, based on the use of the momentum equations and a certain one-parameter family of velocity profiles. As is well known, this method of approximating the solution yields good results in the study of stationary problems. In the study of nonstationary problems, this approach leads to simpler approximate solutions than those derived from the usual method of successive approximati...

[texts]Using Neural Networks to Describe Tracer Correlations - Lary, D. J.
Neural networks are ideally suited to describe the spatial and temporal dependence of tracer-tracer correlations. The neural network performs well even in regions where the correlations are less compact and normally a family of correlation curves would be required. For example, the CH4-N2O correlation can be well described using a neural network trained with the latitude, pressure, time of year, and CH4 volume mixing ratio (v.m.r.)...
